How to Fix Xhorse VVDI XSMQB Key MQB49 5C Cannot Turn on Ignition?

Problem:
During MQB49 5C key programming on a 2020 VW Tiguan using Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Plus, an issue was encountered where the newly programmed VVDI key would not turn on the ignition, despite successful key learning.

Initial Procedure and Result:

• IMMO data was successfully read from the original key.
• A dealer key was generated using VVDI XSMQB1EN remote.
• Initial key learning was performed with ignition off and hazards on, following the standard instructions.
• Both keys were learned successfully, confirmed by the “2‑2” indication on the dashboard.
• Original key: Fully functional (ignition + remote)
• VVDI key: Remote functions and ESL (electronic steering lock) worked, but the key would not switch on the ignition.

Solution

After consulting Xhorse technical support, the following solution was recommended:
-Repeat the entire key learning process with the ignition ON.
After following this advice, both keys worked perfectly. Full ignition function and remote control were restored on both remotes.
